For most people going to the dentist is not on their top ten list of things to do. Perceptions linger on but technology and medications have revolutionized patient experiences. Oral Sedation Dentistry, also called sleep dentistry, is able to reach out and provide needed dental care to those who otherwise would not receive it. The number one reason people don't go to the dentist is fear or extreme anxiety.

Many people avoid their oral health because of fear of dental treatment. Now there's an answer.

Oral Sedation
You will take a small pill approximately one hour prior to your dental appointment. You will need to have someone drive you to our office and pick you up after your visit. By the time you arrive you will feel very drowsy. The level of sedation or drowsiness can be altered to best fit your needs. Some people prefer to sleep through treatment while others are happy to just relax.

Another term for sedation dentistry is oral conscious sedation because the patient is never completely unconscious during their dental procedure.

Oral sedation is an approved sedation method for anyone over 18 years old.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous Oxide which is commonly called 'laughing gas' is one of the safest forms of sedation and also available to alleviate anxiety during dental procedures. Nitrous oxide is a gas you breathe through a mask you wear on your nose. Within minutes the patient experiences a relaxed and euphoric state, hence the term 'laughing gas'.

With Nitrous Oxide, the patient is back to normal soon after the mask is removed and is able to drive them self home. Depth of sedation can be varied depending on your level of anxiety. Nitrous Oxide sedation can also be used to reduce gag reflexes and salivary flow. This is also a good option for children.
